Tap a day to mark it: P present, A absent, H half day, WO weekly off. Wages here are days worked × daily wage; pay overtime separately at twice the ordinary rate.
A muster roll is the attendance register of workers: one row per worker, one column per day of the month, marked present, absent, half day or weekly off. Totalled at the month end, it gives the days worked on which wages are paid.
Employers must keep a register of their workers’ attendance and wages; the government’s handbook on the Code on Wages treats it as a single attendance register cum muster roll. Contractors keep one for each site, and principal employers check it, with proof of wage payment, before they release the contractor’s bill.
The four labour codes came into force on 21 November 2025 and replaced the older Acts, including the Minimum Wages Act, the Payment of Wages Act and the Contract Labour Act. Labour is a concurrent subject, so check your state’s rules under the codes for the exact register format.
Wages must not be below the minimum wage notified for the work and the area. Overtime beyond the normal working hours is paid at at least twice the ordinary rate of wages.
Pay on time: wages for a daily wage period are due at the end of the shift, weekly wages before the weekly holiday, and monthly wages before the seventh day of the next month.
In Rebota the site marks attendance every day, the whole gang in one go, as present, half day or absent, with overtime hours and a split when a worker moves between two sites on the same day. Wages are worked out from each worker’s rate and kept with that day’s record, advances and payments are recorded against the worker, and a closed period can be locked so the roll can’t change after pay.
