How to use the SWP Calculator

  1. Enter your corpus.
  2. Enter the amount you want to withdraw each month.
  3. Enter the expected return and the number of years you need the income.

Formula used

Each month: Balance = Balance × (1 + r/12) − Withdrawal

Maximum sustainable withdrawal that exhausts the corpus exactly at the end: W = P × i ÷ (1 − (1 + i)−n), i = r/12, n = months.

SWP Calculator — FAQs

What is a safe withdrawal rate?▾
Many retirement planners use 3–4% of the corpus a year for a 25–30-year horizon, and increase withdrawals only with inflation.
How is SWP taxed?▾
Each withdrawal is partly your capital and partly gains; only the gains portion is taxed as capital gains, which usually makes SWP more tax-efficient than FD interest.
What happens if returns are lower than expected?▾
The corpus runs out sooner. Test a lower return in the calculator to see a conservative case.
