How to use the NPS Calculator

  1. Enter your monthly contribution and current age.
  2. Enter the expected return (equity-heavy NPS schemes have historically returned 9–12%).
  3. Choose the annuity share (minimum 40%) and an expected annuity rate.

Formula used

Corpus = Σ contribution × (1 + r/12)months remaining until age 60

Monthly pension = Corpus × annuity share × annuity rate ÷ 12

Lump sum = Corpus − annuity purchase (at most 60%).

NPS Calculator — FAQs

Is the NPS lump sum tax-free?▾
Yes, up to 60% of the corpus withdrawn at retirement is tax-free. The pension from the annuity is taxed as income.
What tax benefits does NPS give?▾
In the old regime, own contributions qualify under 80CCD(1) within the 80C limit plus an extra ₹50,000 under 80CCD(1B). Employer contributions under 80CCD(2) are deductible in both regimes.
Can I withdraw before 60?▾
Partial withdrawals are allowed for specific needs after 3 years. Exiting before 60 requires 80% of the corpus to buy an annuity.
