UK Salary Calculator — Take-home Pay 2026/27 — FAQs

How much is £45,000 after tax in the UK?▾
With a 5% salary-sacrifice pension and no student loan, £45,000 gives roughly £2,858 a month take-home in 2026/27 — about £34,300 a year after £6,037 income tax and £2,415 National Insurance.
What is the 60% tax trap?▾
Between £100,000 and £125,140 you lose £1 of personal allowance for every £2 earned, so the effective income tax rate on that band is 60% (62% with NI). Pension contributions can bring income back below £100,000.
Are tax bands the same in Scotland?▾
No. Scottish taxpayers pay six income tax bands (19% to 48%). National Insurance is the same across the UK.
Does salary sacrifice save National Insurance?▾
Yes. Salary sacrifice reduces the salary you are paid, so both income tax and NI fall. Relief-at-source pensions only save income tax.
