How to use the Import Landed Cost Calculator

  1. Enter the supplier's FOB price, freight and insurance in the invoice currency.
  2. Enter the exchange rate, customs duty and IGST for your HS code.
  3. Add clearing and local transport costs and the number of units.

Formula used

Assessable value = (FOB + Freight + Insurance) × Exchange rate

BCD = AV × duty %, SWS = 10% × BCD, IGST = (AV + BCD + SWS) × IGST %

Landed cost = AV + BCD + SWS + local charges (+ IGST if you cannot claim input tax credit)

Is IGST on imports a cost?▾
Not for a GST-registered business using the goods for taxable supplies — it can be claimed as input tax credit. Basic customs duty and SWS are real costs.
What exchange rate does customs use?▾
The CBIC notifies customs exchange rates, typically twice a month; the rate on the date the bill of entry is filed applies.
What is the social welfare surcharge?▾
A surcharge of 10% of basic customs duty on most imports, with some goods exempt or charged at lower rates.
