BUSY gives Indian traders deep stock handling and cheap multi-user licences. The reasons to leave are specific: working away from the office, an accountant on Tally, or a business that now runs projects or production.
BUSY is a Windows program. BUSY Online adds remote access for ₹10,800 per 360 days (₹16,800 for the SQL version), plus GST. That keeps your data and habits intact, and it is often the cheapest fix.
If you want a browser and phone app from the start, the cloud options are Zoho Books (free under ₹25 lakh revenue, Standard ₹749 a month billed yearly), Vyapar for phone billing, or an ERP such as Rebota. Check stock features on the exact plan: Zoho Books keeps batch and serial tracking for its Elite plan at ₹4,999 a month.
TallyPrime Silver is ₹22,500 for one user and Gold ₹67,500 for unlimited users on the network, plus GST and yearly TSS from the second year; Tally also rents Gold at ₹24,300 a year. You lose BUSY's built-in serial and size/colour stock, which need add-ons in Tally, but you gain an accountant who can open your data directly. See Tally vs BUSY.
Marg ERP 9+ is built for distributors and chemists: Silver ₹13,900 and Gold ₹26,000 with unlimited users and companies, plus GST and yearly ARC. It is sold through Marg's own network.
BUSY Standard has bills of material and production planning, which suit simple assembly. Contractors with BOQs and RA bills, manufacturers with routings, work centres and schedules, and businesses with payroll and approvals need an ERP:
Stay if your team works in one office, your stock needs batches, serials or sizes, your CA is happy with BUSY reports, and nobody needs projects or production orders. Few products give that much stock handling for a ₹16,500 one-time licence.
Export item masters with batch details, party masters and opening balances to Excel. Move at a month or year start, carry closing stock by batch, and tie the stock summary and trial balance in both systems before you stop billing in BUSY.
| Alternative | Choose it when | Price (before GST) | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| BUSY Online (stay) | Only remote access is missing | ₹10,800 per 360 days | Still the desktop program, delivered remotely |
| TallyPrime | Your CA works in Tally | Silver ₹22,500; Gold ₹67,500 | Serial and size/colour stock need add-ons |
| Marg ERP 9+ | Pharma or FMCG distribution | Silver ₹13,900; Gold ₹26,000 | Yearly ARC; sold through Marg's network |
| Zoho Books | Cloud, small team, simple stock | Free under ₹25 lakh; from ₹749 a month | Batch and serial on Elite (₹4,999 a month) |
| Vyapar | Billing from a phone | ₹4,399–₹4,799 a year | Lighter inventory and accounting |
| Odoo / ERPNext | Broad ERP with technical help | Odoo ₹580 a user a month; ERPNext hosting from ₹410 | Setup and configuration |
| Rebota | Projects, production, payroll | Free plan; paid plans per company | Cloud only; you file GST on the portal |
Rebota fits BUSY users whose business has grown operations: contractors with BOQs and RA bills, manufacturers with production orders and schedules, and teams that need payroll and approvals in the same system as stock and GST.
A trader in one office whose only need is books and stock. BUSY already does that well and cheaply; stay, or add BUSY Online for remote access.
BUSY itself for stock-heavy trading in one office. Tally when the CA needs it. Marg for pharma and FMCG distribution. Zoho Books for small cloud teams.
Never as a replacement for BUSY once you have GST invoices and stock; spreadsheets lose batch tracking and the GST reports.
Rebuilding item masters with batches and serials, retraining billing staff, and the CA's time on a new system. Cloud software adds a monthly fee where BUSY was paid once.
Remote access only: BUSY Online. CA on Tally: Tally. Pharma distribution: Marg. Small cloud team: Zoho Books. Projects, production or payroll: an ERP such as Rebota.
Before leaving BUSY, list the stock features you use daily (batch, expiry, serial, size and colour, godowns, price lists, schemes) and test each one in the alternative with your real items. Stock handling is where BUSY users lose the most in a move, and it rarely shows in a demo.
