Intuit stopped selling QuickBooks in India in 2022 and switched it off in 2023. If you used it, learned it abroad, or your parent company runs it, these are the options that handle Indian GST properly.
Intuit withdrew QuickBooks from India. New sign-ups stopped in July 2022, existing subscribers could keep using it until 30 April 2023, and access ended on 1 July 2023. The withdrawal covered QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Online Accountant, the QuickBooks mobile app and QuickBooks Time, and Intuit pointed users to the list of government-endorsed accounting software on the GST portal.

Zoho Books — the closest experience: cloud, bank feeds, recurring invoices, payment reminders, a customer portal and phone apps. Free for one user and an accountant while revenue stays under ₹25 lakh a year; Standard is ₹749 a month billed yearly, and e-invoicing starts on Standard.
TallyPrime — the default of Indian accounting practice. Desktop, very fast, works offline, and your CA can open the data directly. Silver ₹22,500 once, or rented at ₹8,100 a year, plus GST.
Odoo — if you want QuickBooks-style accounting inside a wider system with Indian localisation. One app free; ₹580 per user a month for all apps on Standard, billed yearly.
Rebota — if your business also runs stock across godowns, projects, production or payroll: GST books, e-invoicing and e-way bills, GSTR-1 and 3B preparation with 2B reconciliation, and the operations on top, priced per company. After the 15-day trial, keep using Rebota free: 1 user, 30 GST invoices a month, stock, suppliers and cash. Upgrade only when you need more.
Indian subsidiaries of foreign companies often keep local books in Indian software for GST and statutory reporting, and send a monthly trial balance or management pack to the parent. Agree the chart-of-accounts mapping with the parent's finance team once, and export the same report every month.
Since access ended, the only data you can use is what was exported before July 2023. Take the last trial balance, open invoices and bills, customer and supplier lists and the item list from those exports, and load them as opening balances at a financial-year start. Keep the old exports with your records for the statutory period.
| Alternative | Feels like QuickBooks? | Price (before GST) | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zoho Books | Closest: cloud, bank feeds, reminders | Free under ₹25 lakh; from ₹749 a month | Small team, works from anywhere |
| TallyPrime | No: desktop, keyboard-driven | Silver ₹22,500; rental ₹8,100 a year | Your CA keeps your books |
| Odoo | Partly: modern cloud accounting | One app free; ₹580 a user a month | You want a wider system |
| Rebota | Cloud, with operations on top | Free plan; paid plans per company | Stock, projects, production or payroll too |
Rebota fits former QuickBooks users whose business now runs more than books: stock in several godowns, projects with BOQs, production orders, or staff on payroll.
A freelancer or small service firm that only needs invoices and books. Zoho Books is the closer, simpler replacement.
Zoho Books for the closest QuickBooks experience and a free start. Tally when the CA keeps the books. Odoo when you want QuickBooks-style accounting inside a broad suite.
Below the GST threshold with a few invoices a month; a proper GST invoice format will do.
Rebuilding masters from old exports, mapping your chart of accounts to Indian GST ledgers, and the accountant's time on a new system.
Closest to QuickBooks: Zoho Books. What your CA uses: Tally. A wider suite: Odoo. Books plus operations: Rebota.
When moving from software built for another country, rebuild the chart of accounts around Indian GST from the start: separate input and output CGST, SGST and IGST ledgers, TDS payable, and reverse-charge accounts. Mapping old ledgers one by one carries over a structure that never fitted Indian returns.
