Odoo can do almost anything, which is both its strength and its cost. Most teams leave for one of three reasons: the per-user bill as headcount grows, partner and customisation spend, or industry features that never quite fit.
Twenty users on Odoo Standard cost 20 × ₹580 × 12 = ₹1,39,200 in the first year and ₹1,74,000 a year at the ₹725 price after it, before GST and before partner fees. On Custom, the same team costs ₹2,59,200 a year at ₹1,080.
The alternatives that change this maths are the ones that do not charge per user: ERPNext, where you pay for hosting (Frappe Cloud from ₹410 a month for a site, or ₹3,600 for a server) and for whoever runs it, and per-company pricing such as Rebota's, where users come with the plan.
Odoo's breadth often means a partner configuring modules and building what is missing in Studio or code. If most of your spend goes there, ask whether another product has those screens already. For Indian contractors (BOQ, RA bills, measurement book) and manufacturers (routing, scheduling, quality checks with batch traceability), Rebota ships them as standard. For businesses on Microsoft 365, Business Central with a partner may fit better than more Odoo modules.
GST e-invoicing, e-way bills, TDS and Indian payroll rules all have to be configured and kept current. Ask any alternative to show GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B preparation, GSTR-2B reconciliation, e-invoices and payslips with PF, ESI and professional tax, on your data, before you decide. Rebota prepares GSTR-1 and 3B and reconciles 2B; you file on the GST portal.
ERPNext — the closest in spirit: open source, broad (accounting, inventory, manufacturing, assets, projects), no per-user licence. Best with an in-house developer or a good partner.
Zoho ERP — launched in India in January 2026: finance, supply chain, manufacturing, payroll and commerce. ₹999 per user a month billed yearly with a minimum of five users, plus ₹249 per employee using self-service.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central — Essentials ₹6,655 and Premium ₹9,150 per user a month, paid yearly, through partners. For Microsoft-centred companies.
SAP Business One — through SAP partners, per user. For mid-size firms with complex processes or an SAP parent.
Rebota — per company, users included, built for Indian SMEs in construction, manufacturing, trading and services, with GST books and payroll underneath. After the 15-day trial, keep using Rebota free: 1 user, 30 GST invoices a month, stock, suppliers and cash. Upgrade only when you need more.
Prices checked on 20 October 2026 on the vendors' own pages: Odoo, Frappe Cloud, Zoho ERP, Business Central. All before GST.
Stay if a good partner already runs it well, the modules you use fit without heavy custom code, and the per-user bill is acceptable at the regular price. A working ERP is worth a lot; replacing one because a competitor's demo looked cleaner is rarely worth the disruption.
| Alternative | How you pay | Price (before GST) | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Odoo (stay) | Per user | ₹580 (first year) / ₹725; Custom ₹1,080 | A partner runs it well and it fits |
| ERPNext | Open source plus hosting | Hosting from ₹410 a month | You have technical help; no per-user fees |
| Zoho ERP | Per user plus per employee | ₹999 a user a month, min 5 users | You want Zoho's suite |
| Business Central | Per user, through partners | ₹6,655–₹9,150 a user a month | You run on Microsoft 365 |
| SAP Business One | Per user, through partners | Quoted | Complex mid-size or SAP parent |
| Rebota | Per company, users included | Free plan; paid plans per company | Indian SME operations without custom code |
Rebota fits Odoo users in Indian construction, manufacturing or trading who are paying a partner to build industry screens, or whose per-user bill grows with every site supervisor and storekeeper added.
A business that relies on many Odoo apps beyond operations (eCommerce, helpdesk, marketing automation) or on custom modules built for it. Staying on Odoo, or moving to ERPNext, keeps that breadth.
Odoo itself when it already fits. ERPNext when you want open source without per-user fees and have technical help. Zoho ERP for Zoho customers. Business Central for Microsoft shops. SAP Business One for complex mid-size groups.
Not once you have an ERP; going back to spreadsheets loses approvals, the audit trail and shared live data.
Data migration from Odoo, retraining, rebuilt reports, and any custom modules you would lose. Count them against two or three years of saved licences and partner fees.
Cost is the problem: ERPNext or per-company pricing. Fit is the problem: the product that already has your industry's screens, which for Indian contractors and manufacturers is often Rebota. Neither: stay on Odoo.
List your last twelve months of Odoo spend in three lines: licences, partner fees, and internal time spent configuring. If the second and third lines are larger than the first, the problem is fit, and a cheaper per-user price will not fix it. Demo alternatives on the processes that consumed that partner time.
