Marg is built for pharma and FMCG distribution, and inside that world it is hard to replace. Outside it, or when you want the cloud, or when the yearly ARC starts to grate, other products fit better.
Marg ERP 9+ is a one-time licence plus yearly ARC (annual renewal charges), both plus 18% GST:
The ARC includes the year's licence and upgrades, two troubleshooting visits and phone support from local support centres. Marg says it does not sell through online portals, so buy and get support through its own network.
From Marg's price list, checked on 20 October 2026. Customisation is extra.
Marg's depth is batches, expiry, schemes and distributor workflows. A hardware trader, an electronics dealer or a garment wholesaler often gets a better fit from BUSY: Standard ₹16,500 one-time with full GST and batch-wise stock for unlimited users in one office, and serial numbers and size/colour items on its SMART subscription (₹8,000 per 360 days). Or from Tally if your CA works in it: Silver ₹22,500, Gold ₹67,500.
Marg 9+ is desktop software. For browser and phone access, Zoho Books is free under ₹25 lakh revenue (Standard ₹749 a month billed yearly), though batch and serial tracking need its Elite plan at ₹4,999 a month. Vyapar covers counter and phone billing for ₹4,399 to ₹4,799 a year at the prices on its site. An ERP such as Rebota runs in the browser and on Android with batch and serial stock built in.
Manufacturing your own products, running projects, or managing staff on payroll calls for an ERP. Rebota covers production orders with routing and scheduling, quality checks with batch traceability, payroll with PF, ESI and PT, and GST books, priced per company. After the 15-day trial, keep using Rebota free: 1 user, 30 GST invoices a month, stock, suppliers and cash. Upgrade only when you need more.
Stay if you are a chemist or distributor, your dealer gives good support, and your team bills quickly in Marg. Changing a pharma billing counter mid-season costs more in errors and slow queues than years of ARC.
Export item masters with batch and expiry, party masters, outstanding bills and opening stock to Excel. Move at a month start, carry closing stock batch by batch, and check that near-expiry items and schemes come across before you switch the counter over.

A chemist or pharma distributor whose need is fast counter billing with batches, expiry and schemes. Marg is built for that; stay.
Marg itself in pharma and FMCG distribution. BUSY for general stock-heavy trading. Tally when the CA needs it. Zoho Books or Vyapar for cloud and phone use.
Never for a business with batches and expiry dates; tracking them in spreadsheets is how expired stock gets sold.
Rebuilding item masters with batches and schemes, retraining the counter staff, and a slow first month at billing. Against staying: ARC every year.
Pharma or FMCG distribution: stay on Marg. General trading: BUSY. CA on Tally: Tally. Cloud and phone: Zoho Books or Vyapar. Production, projects or payroll: Rebota.
Before leaving Marg, run a near-expiry report and a scheme report in Marg, and ask each alternative to produce the same two reports from your exported data. If it cannot, it will not run your counter, however good the demo looks.
